Not a skier? Not a problem! You can still take advantage of the winter weather and fresh snow at Deep Creek Lake!
Snow tubing and sledding have always been a favorite past time, but with advances in modern technology, our local resorts have upgraded tubing and sledding to an entirely new level!
Snow Tubing
One of the great things about snow tubing is that it doesn’t require any athletic ability or experience. It’s great for all ages and fitness levels! Wisp Resort’s tubing park features two conveyor belt lifts to take you to the top and groomed tubing lanes! They sell an allotted number of tickets per session to make sure that the park isn’t overloaded, too.
Tubing is also a wonderful winter activity because variances in weather can add to the fun. When it’s warmer, the tubing lanes are usually a little slower, which means you can connect your tube with other tubes and take a trip together down the hill! When it’s colder, the tubes usually go faster, which can add a while new level of excitement.
Sledding
Did you know there’s a sledding park (the longest on the East Coast!) with a lift located just 45 minutes south of Deep Creek Lake?! Absolutely well worth the trip, the sledding park at Blackwater Falls State Park in Davis, WV, is a must see! Not only do they offer a sledding hill, but they also offer rentals and a conveyor belt to take you to the top of the hill. It’s a great afternoon trip if you’re staying at the lake and looking for something new to try.
Around Deep Creek Lake, there are not specific public places to sled, however, any communities and neighborhoods offer their own special spot that’s safe and fun! You can also take a sled to some of the state parks and find a fun hill to slide down.
Having an alternate outdoor activity to skiing or snowboarding is a great way to add variety to your vacation and try new things!
